About me

I love teaching and learning!  Always have, and always will!  For many years I have been successfully running a personalised, meaningful and flexible classroom programme, where my students learnt how to learn through deep thinking and inquiry and were empowered to initiate, plan, drive, monitor and evaluate their learning.

After 16 years in the classroom, I’m now working full time as an Education Facilitator working with schools to help them in their journey towards “Innovative Learning.” I regularly facilitate courses, staff meetings and teacher only days.  I take breakouts and keynotes in conferences and I often observe and coach teachers in their classes.  In my work, we look at how to create spaces (whether single cell or in shared spaces) where learners are engaged in a thinking and learning culture of meaningful inquiry,  where they are enabled with deep and purposeful learning and empowered with authentic agency!  I’m all about the pedagogy and programme.  And I pride myself on providing relevant, practical ideas so teachers can create students who love learning, and have the dispositions, skills, knowledge and understanding to thrive in tomorrow’s world.

Some of the highlights of my career so far have been as follows:

  •   Awarded the Haben’s Prize for Excellence in Education - University of Canterbury
  •   Being one of four recipients of the NEITA Regional Excellence in Teaching Award
  •   ‘Cluster Facilitator' for 4 years with 10 schools focused on thinking & inquiry
  •   Presenter at 2 International Conferences on Thinking - in Kuala Lumpur and Belfast which included being part of a keynote presentation
  •   Achieved both the "Certified Coach" & "Accredited Teacher of Critical and Creative Thinking Skills” Awards through the National Centre for Teaching Thinking USA.
